What is special about solid-supported scavengers?
Silica-bound scavengers are a class of insoluble solids that are used in synthetic chemistry to capture excess reagents, catalysts, metal complexes and some by-products. The use of insoluble scavengers expedites synthesis and increases lab productivity as follows:
- Reagents and by-products can be trapped and separated by a simple filtration
- Purification protocols including chromatography and liquid-liquid extractions, which are time consuming and difficult to scale up, are not required in some cases
- One-pot multiple step reactions are more feasible to conduct
- They are suitable for use in flow-through applications and automated synthesis

SiliaBond® scavengers for organic synthesis and purification
SiliCycle Inc. is a pioneer in the development of functionalised silica gels, gathered under the name SiliaBond®, for use in synthesis and purification. The backbone of all SiliaBond® products is stationary phase silica gel having particle size 40 – 63 µm and pore size 60 Å.
